For those of you who doesn't know what a laptop/computer is (even though your probably using one right now).
A computer is, "a machine which can take instructions, and perform computations based on those instructions".(McGuigan 2011) Its an electronic device that manipulates information, or "data". It has the ability to store, retrieve, and process data. You can use a computer to type documents, send email, and browse the internet. You can also use it to handle spreadsheets, accounting, database management, presentations, games, and much more.
A computer/laptop helps us in many different ways. It helps us get in touch with our relatives half way around the world. A few days ago I got to webcam chat with my cousin who finally had their twins a few weeks ago. I saw they're cute little faces and also got to see how my cousin look like after not seeing them for about half a year.
It also helps us gather information about things that we would like to know. Like now, I needed to do some research on why a computer/laptop is so important and how it helps people. So I'm using a computer to gather some information and to give me an idea.
It helps students send their homework to their teachers. I've actually had to do this a couple of times already, where I needed to do my homework and after type it up in my computer/laptop and send it to my teachers. Like what Mr. Hainstock made us do last week, where we had to find the answers on some of the questions he posted on his blog and send it to his email.
Another way a computer/laptop helps us is by letting us read the news online. You can read the news online without having to subscribe to a newspaper. It's also probably faster to read online than the newspaper, it can be as soon as it happens or maybe even live. Not only that, in some countries the press is regulated and not allowed to publish many things especially truths about/against the government, but there are many online news portal/ personal blogs that reveal unpublished truth, so internet allows us to access them.
It also entertains us. I think this is a major part of how a computer/laptop helps us. It makes us feel less bored by just simply playing some games, listening to music, or just plain old watch videos, go on social networking sites like facebook, twitter etc. This is probably what I do 85% of the time I'm using the computer.
In conclusion to that, I think that one of the biggest things that helps us is the computer/laptop. It communicates us with friends; relatives; families, gather information, helps us with our education, entertains us and keeps us "in" on what the latest is. Without the computer/laptop, I think it would make our lives harder because if we needed to find out an information about something, we would have to go to the library and checkout a ton of books and look through each and every one of them to find out what we're looking for. We would also be unable to communicate with each other at a fast pace like, talking in person, instead we would have to write letters that can take from a week to a month until the person gets it.

Good job
ReplyDeleteI personally think that computers are very helpful. I also have recently contacted my family who are all the way in the Phillipines. It's the only way I can see how they're doing. Which is why my family is really thankful to be able to have computers.
